CRATES.
Every record has a past life.
Hip-hop was born from a simple, radical act: a DJ pulling forgotten music from the crates and making it speak again. Producers like Dr. Dre and J Dilla built entire sonic worlds by reaching back into the funk and soul of the sixties and seventies — the drum breaks of James Brown and Run-D.M.C., the silky grooves of Chic, the cosmic funk of Parliament-Funkadelic, the fire of the Isley Brothers, the restless energy of Grandmaster Flash. They flipped those records into something new, something harder, something that would go on to soundtrack a generation.
That lineage is what P H A L L O U T plays with.
Our set draws from the golden age and beyond — rooted deep in the nineties, when hip-hop was at its most raw and inventive, but ranging all the way up to the present day. Some tracks you’ll recognise instantly. Some will take a second. All of them hit.
